UNIPMA Research Team Develops Standardized Herbal Medicine Based on Genitri Leaves
UNIPMA — The research team of Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA) continues to develop innovation in the field of herbal medicine through a study titled Standardization Model of GEMUNOS OHT Genitri (Elaeocarpus ganitrus) Product: A Study of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) Safety. The research focuses on developing herbal products based on genitri leaves by prioritizing safety aspects as one of the stages toward Standardized Herbal Medicine (Obat Herbal Terstandar/OHT).
The research is led by Dr. drh. Cicilia Novi Primiani, M.Pd., together with Pujiati, S.Si., M.Si., and Apt. Weka Sidha Bhagawan, S.Farm., M.Farm. The team conducts a series of studies in accordance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards to produce scientific data that can support the development of herbal products based on Indonesian natural ingredients.
The head of the research team, Dr. drh. Cicilia Novi Primiani, M.Pd., stated that the study aims to ensure the safety aspects of herbal products through preclinical testing stages before further development.
“This research aims to validate the safety of genitri leaf extract as a Standardized Herbal Medicine through a series of preclinical tests. The results obtained show that the product meets safety parameters, thus providing a basis for the development of herbal products based on Indonesian natural ingredients,” she said.
During the research process, the team carried out various stages in accordance with scientific procedures and applicable laboratory standards. These stages are designed to obtain valid data on product safety as part of the herbal medicine development process.
Based on the research results, the product shows a safety profile that meets the required parameters in preclinical testing. These findings serve as a basis for the research team to continue the development process to the next stage in accordance with applicable regulations.
As part of research downstreaming efforts, UNIPMA has also established cooperation with industry partners to support the product development process until it is ready to enter production stages according to standards. This collaboration is expected to accelerate the utilization of research results so that they can provide broader benefits to society.
In addition to producing product innovation, this research also generates various academic outputs, including scientific publications, intellectual property rights, and supporting documents for innovation development, strengthening UNIPMA’s contribution to research and community service.
Dr. drh. Cicilia Novi Primiani added that collaboration between universities and industry is an important step so that research results do not stop at the laboratory scale, but can continue to be developed into products with useful value and competitiveness.
This strengthening of research is in line with UNIPMA’s commitment to improving the quality of education, research, and innovation. By 2026, UNIPMA has 12 study programs with Excellent accreditation, four professors, and continues to expand cooperation with various national and international partners to support the implementation of the Tridharma of Higher Education.
Through this ecosystem, UNIPMA encourages the creation of research that not only produces scientific publications but also has downstream potential and provides real benefits to society.
Currently, admissions for the Regular Program and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for the 2026/2027 Academic Year are open.
