UNIPMA Equips 207 PPG Students with Scout Leader Competencies through KMD and KML Training

UNIPMA – Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA) organized the Basic Skills Course (Kursus Mahir Dasar / KMD) and Advanced Skills Course (Kursus Mahir Lanjutan / KML) for 207 students of the Teacher Professional Education (PPG) program for prospective teachers in 2026. The activity, held on 20–25 June 2026 at GOR Cendekia UNIPMA, aimed to equip future teachers with competencies as Scout leaders while supporting character education strengthening in schools.

The head of the organizing committee, Andista Candra Yusro, S.Pd., M.Pd., stated that KMD and KML are part of the preparation for PPG students to gain the knowledge, skills, and leadership required to guide Scout activities in school environments.

“This program is designed to ensure that PPG students have professional Scout leader competencies so they are able to support students’ character education,” he said.

During the six-day program, participants received various materials and practical sessions covering the fundamentals of the Scout Movement, mentoring methods, unit organization and administration, strategies for achieving SKU, SKK, and SPG standards, training program development, mentoring practice, and outdoor activities.

The series of activities began with participant orientation, course preparation, and a pre-test. Participants then received materials according to Scout levels, followed by mentoring practice, group dynamics activities, a fellowship night, outdoor activities, and the closing ceremony on the final day.

Riskhi, a member of UNIPMA’s Scout organization, explained that the KMD implementation was designed to improve the competencies of PPG students as prospective teachers so they are capable of becoming professional Scout leaders.

“KMD provides knowledge, skills, and leadership qualities needed by future teachers to support character education in schools,” he said.

The program involved trainers from the Madiun City Branch Scout Council (Kwartir Cabang), and was attended by university leaders, PPG lecturers, committee members, and all PPG students for the 2026 cohort.

Through the implementation of KMD and KML, UNIPMA hopes participants will be able to apply Scouting education in schools and serve as competent Scout leaders in supporting students’ character development.
