UNIPMA — The Master’s Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education at Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA) held the SERASI 1st 2026 International Literacy Seminar on Wednesday (August 19). The seminar, held in a hybrid format at the UNIPMA Integrated Laboratory and via Zoom Meeting, discussed the challenges facing Indonesian language, literature, and culture amid the development of artificial intelligence (AI).

The seminar carried the theme “Indonesian Language, Literature, and Culture in the AI Era: Realizing Humanistic, Critical, and Adaptive Learning.” The event featured four speakers from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.

The four speakers were Prof. Dr. M. Rohmadi from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), Dr. Dwi Rohman Soleh from UNIPMA, Assist. Prof. Dr. Anahita Ghanad from Veritas University College Malaysia, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Aminoh Jehwae from Prince of Songkla University, Thailand.

SERASI 1st 2026 organizing committee chair, Dr. Sigit Ricahyono, S.S., M.Pd., said the seminar was not intended solely as an academic discussion forum. The event also served as a platform for postgraduate students who had completed their theses to develop their research findings toward scientific publication.

“This seminar provides a space for students who have completed their thesis examinations to publish their research,” said Dr. Sigit Ricahyono, S.S., M.Pd.

According to him, the participation of academics from overseas universities was also aimed at expanding the development of the Three Pillars of Higher Education within the Master’s Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education. The cooperation is expected to continue beyond the seminar.

Dr. Sigit Ricahyono, S.S., M.Pd., said SERASI is planned to become an annual event. In addition, the organizers are preparing several follow-up programs, including student and faculty exchanges, the involvement of international academics in thesis examinations, joint research, and community service programs.

“Going forward, there will be student and faculty exchanges, thesis examinations attended by one of the international speakers, as well as joint research and community service,” he added.

The seminar began with an opening session. Following the opening and welcoming remarks, participants attended presentations by national speakers, followed by sessions led by academics from Thailand and Malaysia.

After the plenary session, the event continued with parallel presentations through six breakout rooms. The sessions provided participants with opportunities to present and discuss works or studies related to literacy and language and literature education.

The hybrid format allowed participants to attend the event directly from the UNIPMA Integrated Laboratory or online. The format also supported the participation of speakers and attendees from various locations without requiring them to be physically present at the event venue.

Through SERASI 1st 2026, the Master’s Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education at UNIPMA positioned issues of literacy, language, literature, and culture in the context of AI development as part of its academic agenda, while also opening opportunities for international cooperation in education, research, and community service.
