UNIPMA — Students of the Guidance and Counseling Study Program (Himabiko) at Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA) held a self-awareness training session for students of SMAN 1 Slahung, Ponorogo, on Wednesday (12/8). The training encouraged students to understand themselves, explore their potential, and begin planning their future direction.

The activity, which was part of Himabiko’s work program, carried the theme “Knowing Yourself, Developing Your Potential, Determining Your Future Steps.” The implementation was supported by supervising lecturers Dr. Noviyanti Kartika Dewi, M.Pd., Kons. and Dr. Suharni, S.Pd., M.Psi.

Wafdulloh Muhammad Royaan served as the speaker for the activity. He presented the material “Self Awareness: Knowing Yourself, Developing Your Potential, Determining Your Future Steps” using an experiential learning approach through the S.A.D.A.R. Model (See, Analyze, Develop, Act, Reflect).

This approach made the training interactive. Students were encouraged to reflect on themselves through the Life Tree and Wheel of Life activities, participate in psychological games, engage in group discussions, and practice emotional regulation.

The reflections were then directed toward creating roadmaps and portfolios. These two components became part of the students’ process of identifying their potential while considering the steps they wanted to take after graduating from high school.

The organizing committee chair, Cheril Lunetta Salsabila, said the activity was expected to help students face educational and career choices with a better understanding of themselves.

“The purpose of the activity is to improve high school students’ self-awareness so that they are better prepared academically and for their future careers,” said Cheril.

SMAN 1 Slahung was selected as the community service location because Himabiko also wanted to broaden students’ perspectives on higher education opportunities. Cheril said students were expected to continue their education at universities, including UNIPMA.

Meanwhile, the school welcomed the presence of the Himabiko team. The principal of SMAN 1 Slahung hoped that the activity could become the beginning of sustainable cooperation with UNIPMA rather than ending once the community service program was completed.

For Cheril, the results of the activity would be more meaningful if students could apply what they had learned when making decisions after graduation.

“Hopefully, this activity will not just be a momentary source of motivation for the 12th-grade students, but will truly help them better understand their potential, avoid easily experiencing FOMO, and have a clear direction for their future through the roadmaps and portfolios they create,” she said.
